On 7 March the 4WD Club of SA’s Base 4 track, near Hartbeespoort Dam, was buzzing. There were 84 four-wheel drive vehicls, ranging from city-slicking mom’s taxis to more hardcore off-road machines. And there were 84 teams, ready to do battle over nine obstacles.
The event was the annual Reach for a Dream 4×4 Day, and industry sponsors and the teams were at Base 4 in aid of children fighting life-threatening illnesses. Much fun 4×4 was had, with the final results not really all the important – the 4×4 community was there for the children.
Says Marnique Nel from Reach for a Dream: “The 4×4 day was a huge success and we raised more than R100 000 for fulfilling the dreams of some of the children. In fact, with the monies raised, we’ll be able to make about 30 dreams come true.”
